Hello, I’m Bianca. After overcoming addiction six years ago, I am now on a journey toward my best, healthiest self. This of course includes my mind, body, and even my spirit. I’ve been eating clean and practicing yoga for at least two years now, and have removed most toxic self-care products, replacing them with simple organic substitutes where possible. Now I’m thinking of moving toward a healthier oral environment as well and having my silver fillings removed and replaced.
I guess my question is, have you encountered patients who’ve experienced a positive upswing in their emotional and spiritual well-being after seeing a metal-free dentist? I can’t be the only one. I’m interested in this, as beyond the obvious physiological benefits, I’m imagining a cleaner human experience. Thanks.
Dear Bianca,
First of all, way to go! Kudos to you on taking control of your life and beating your addiction. That is not an easy task and it shows real strength of character. I also love your determination to put the health of your mind and body in high priority. It’s truly one of the best gifts you could give yourself.
Mind/Body Connection
A metal-free dentist may also be called a “holistic dentist” or a “biologic dentist”, and sees patients from a whole-person view instead of focusing exclusively on the mouth. From what you’ve shared here, it sounds as if this would be a perfect fit for you. Though it is clearly beneficial to the body, there is no discounting the fact that it may also align with your personal values and beliefs. Honoring this conviction would likely bring about a deeper sense of security and well-being.
Some patients report a higher sense of self-image and regard, reduced anxiety levels, a sense of calm and safety, and a spiritual balance after switching to this type of dentistry. Some feel a psychological lift from the clean, beautiful seamless look of a mouth free of metal. Some report sleeping better…it varies from person to person of course.
Will all of this bring about the positive mind, body and spiritual effects you’re hoping for? While it’s impossible to deliver absolutes, it does sound likely. Besides, a patient’s experience rides quite a bit on the attitude with which they approach their care/appointments, and it sounds like you’re ready to embrace this change. Metal-free dentistry can certainly be a part of your larger quest toward health.
Removing Silver Fillings
Many patients are anxious to remove their silver fillings these days because of the high mercury count in the materials. While the American Dental Society still considers these older fillings safe, we understand that patients are uncomfortable having a toxic substance in their mouth. It is fine to remove them and replace them with the more advanced mercury-free fillings. However, you will need to make sure the dentist you have do this knows how to do a sanitary amalgam removal. This requires special equipment and procedures to protect you from the mercury during the removal process. Any metal-free dentist or mercury-free dentist should know how to do this procedure.
Ultimately, you know yourself best–-by this point in your journey you’ve likely learned to listen to your intuition and deeper self: it knows what you need. Heeding this wise self-guidance will surely result in an authentic, beneficial experience.
Congratulations on your new lifestyle. I see great things in store for your future as you continue this path.
