I went to my dentist and told him I wasn’t happy with the color of my teeth. I brush my teeth, but they just are dingy. I’ve tried using over-the-counter whitestrips, but those aren’t working. My dentist suggested I get porcelain veneers, but they are way too expensive. Are there other options for me?

Dear Liz,

Professional Teeth Whitening Trays
If they only thing you want to change about your teeth is the color, then getting porcelain veneers is a major over treatment. While it will whiten your teeth, it will line your dentist’s pocket more. That is the procedure used for a complete smile makeover. It can change the shape, size, and color of your teeth all at the same time, and is what the Hollywood celebrities use to get their stunning smiles.
As you’re only whitening your teeth, The best thing to do is have professional teeth whitening done. This is a fraction of the cost of what you’d be looking at with veneers.
I know you felt like you haven’t had much success with your take home whitening kits, but that is because those that you can get over the counter have only a small fraction of the strength that you can get with professional teeth whitening. For example, Crest Whitestrips may only have 6% concentration of whitening gel while your whitening at your dentist will be over 30% concentration. Plus, there is a custom fitted tray that keeps the gel directly on your teeth without allowing saliva in to dilute it. You will have noticeable whitening in just a few weeks.
I hope this helps with you situation.
