My parents were quite poor and could never afford the dentist. Braces were completely out of the question. They sacrificed everything so I could have an education and have a better life than they did. Now that I am out of school and have a great job, it is time to get the smile I have always wanted. I’ve been to a dentist and gotten my oral health under control. Now, I would love to have pretty, straight teeth. I have some issues which may interfere with that. My two adult bicuspids never came in so they are both still baby teeth. I know they’ll need to be removed and replaced. Can Invisalign work with missing teeth?
Elaine
Dear Elaine,
Congratulations on all the progress you’ve made with your oral health. I bet your parents are as proud of you as you are of them. Invisalign does a fine job working around missing teeth. One thing you will need to determine is if your adult bicuspids are there but just didn’t erupt or if they are congenitally missing. That will be a big factor in how your case should proceed.
If they are congenitally missing, then Invisalign can open up the area for the replacement teeth. My suggestion is you get dental implants to replace them. They
are the best tooth replacements and will last you for many years.
I have not seen your teeth so I am not saying this last bit is necessary. I am just presenting it in case it is something you are interested in because it can save you time and money. If you were considering whitening your teeth, you should know the Invisalign aligners can double as teeth whitening trays. All you’d need is the professional strength gel, which your dentist can provide for you. This will allow you to whiten and straighten your teeth at the same time.
